The Mallard owes its name to the green color of the plumage on the head of the males during the nuptial period. It should be known that outside this period, its plumage does not have this green shade so particular, it sports indeed a beige coat similar to that of the newborns. Measuring up to 27 inches long for 3 pounds, it is today the best known of all ducks.
