Founded in 1128 in Jerusalem, the Teutonic Order is the third major order of religious and military chivalry from the Crusades. The first knights of this order were called Brothers of St. Mary, and had for first vocation the relief of the sick or wounded Crusaders, before being reorganized in 1190 in military order. This renewal subjected the knights to both the rule of Hospitallers, but also to that of the Knights Templar.
