The Frisian is a breed of saddle horse and draft native to Friesland, province of the Netherlands ... hence its name! He always wears a black dress, and is for this reason nicknamed "the black pearl". This very old prestige horse has a turbulent history: alternately warrior then trotting horse, it is threatened with extinction at the end of the 19th century because neglected for the heavy draft horse. Now protected, the Frisian is very popular for the show and the cinema because of its great elegance, its dress and its raised head. The Frisian stands from 5 to 5 1/2 feet tall, and can even reach 6 feet.
