Belonging to the family Phocidae, the Elephant Seal is easily recognizable thanks to the nasal protrusion in the shape of trunk on the males, protuberance at the origin of their name. In this species, there is a very important sexual dimorphism with males 3 to 4 times larger than females. Indeed they can measure up to 20 feet, for a weight of up to 4 tons, while a female, will measure only 8 feet for a weight of 1100 pounds. These mammals are also excellent divers, they can dive up to 80 times a day and go down to 2 miles deep.
